#SaveMarinaJoyce Theories

You may have noticed a strange hashtag trend circulating across your social media platforms last night under the name of #SaveMarinaJoyce. After creating an enormous worldwide online concern, the situation has now sparked a police investigation. Here's the low down on everything you need to know.

Who is exactly is Marina Joyce?

Marina Joyce is a UK-based YouTuber who films fashion and beauty vlogs. She currently has over 700k subscribers. Some of you may recall her name from Sam Pepper's recent sexual assault allegations in which she reported that he assaulted her during Warped Tour UK in 2013.

What happened?

Over the past few weeks, Marina's fans had been becoming increasingly concerned about her well-being. They claimed that her behaviour had dramatically changed and that all was not right with her usual fun-loving, upbeat and quirky YouTube content. They also began pointed out worrying side glances to an off-camera presence, secret hidden whispers and the use of desperate sign language.

Last night (27/6/16), Marina tweeted about a meet up in Bethnal Green, London on August 3rd. Not long after, she then tweeted that she was holding a meet up at 6:30am in the area the following morning (28/7/16).

Concern grew about her well-being with the hashtag #SaveMarinaJoyce that continued to trend throughout the night and into the morning, with many users believing she was being held against her will. Twitter users then took to internet to get to the bottom of the rumours. If you want to read a detailed (and slightly disturbing) timeline of this story, you can check it out here. Otherwise, we've condensed all the main talking points that are circulating on Twitter right here.

1) Liked Tweets

Many fans have been tweeting Marina expressing their concern about her behaviour over the past few days with some explicitly telling her to 'like this tweet if you need help' (she has liked them, FYI.) The following tweets have all also been liked by Marina, creating even more of a cause for concern.

2) Her deep bruises.

Screenshots of Marina's bruises have been circulated around Twitter, igniting concern for her physical well-being. Many claim that they are the bruises of an abuser, while some have said that she had already admitted to personal history of self harming during her "Draw My life" video.

3) Disjointed Video Timelines

While it's normal for videos to be shot over a long period, fans have been quick to point out the dramatic change in Marina's visual appearance and persona in her completely bizarre most recent video, 'Date Outfit Ideas.' Fans have pointed out that there seems to be someone behind the camera now telling her what to do.

4) Hidden Sign Language

Throughout Marina's videos, you can see she likes to talk with her hands - she always has. But users have suggested that this may have been a cry for help all along.

5) Sam Pepper's Tweet

There are many concerns that Marina may be under the influence of drugs. Again, she confirmed her history with dangerous substances in her 'Draw My Life' video. This has now been brought to the forefront of the "Twitter investigation" by Sam Pepper's most recent tweet.

The concerning hashtag has even gained traction amongst other various big name YouTubers, particularly Alfie Deyes expressed his concern about young viewers attending the sketchy meet-up proposed by Marina. Viner and YouTuber Daz Black reached out to her personally to check on her safety.

There are also many false reports circulating around the internet now - including a hoax article posted on the Buzzfeed Community incorrectly reporting Marina's death and other various concerns about terrorism.

Early Wednesday (28/7/16) morning, alongside a tweet from Enfield Police, Marina has since tweeted that she is OK and has just conducted a live-stream explaining herself. You can read every key point in this twitter thread.

Please remember to stay safe, only attend confirmed meet ups in safe places - such as conventions, and try not to believe everything you read - online rumours can get ridiculously out of hand.

We'll be sure to update you as this story progresses.
