The Weeknd False Alarm
Zoella

YouTuber Zoe Sugg is having one hell of a week. First, her first novel Girl Online broke all sorts of records, then everyone got upset because they found out she may not have written the whole thing by herself.

First, let’s rewind to Zoella’s humble beginnings. The 24-year-old got her start on YouTube in 2009 after adapting her beauty and lifestyle blog into a YouTube channel of similar themes. As of this month, Zoella is looking at an audience of almost 7 million subscribers and has the 59th most subscribed channel in the world.

Earlier this year it was announced that Zoe had scored herself a two-book deal with Penguin books which, at 24, is kind of phenomenal.

Fast forward to this week where #Zoella has been trending since the news of her perceived deception broke. On the one hand, considering that Zoe's brand is largely based around DIY culture, having a not so DIY book published under her name is not great PR. On the other hand, so what?

What is the moral outrage over the fact that a girl who makes her bread and butter telling girls how to apply blush doesn’t also double as Newbury Award Winning Author. Did anyone ever stop to think that if Zoella could write a book by herself with no help then she probably would be an author and not a Youtube personality?

To be honest, if you’re buying a celebrity biography or YA Novel thinking that they actually wrote it then you deserve to be tricked for being so gullible in life. If you genuinely believe someone like Wayne Rooney left a Manchester United practice session, drove home in his Aston Martin Vanquish, told Colleen to put on a cup of tea and booted up his laptop to write some chapters of My Story then you are having a laugh.

Writers can generally spend more time writing books because their only profession is "writer". With someone like Zoella, she has the added titles of brand ambassador, YouTube personality, cosmetics designer, and a host of other obligations, which would otherwise occupy her time. No point in calling Zoella a fraud for not writing the book. I’d rather be a rich fraud than a broke hater any day.

If you don’t believe me, here is a list of people who definitely didn’t write the books they "wrote":

Kendall and Kylie
Lauren Conrad
Snookie
Jay-Z
Katie Price
Wayne Rooney
Russell Brand
