Last night at the Brit Awards in London (Feb 24), Lorde took to the stage to deliver a stunning performance of "Life On Mars".
After a touching speech by actor, and close friend of Bowie's, Gary Oldman, David Bowie's longtime touring band played a short melody of the Thin White Duke's hits before Lorde joined them onstage for a a full version of Bowie's classic "Life On Mars". Watch the video below.
Lorde sings Life On Mars in Bowie tribute at Brits
Lorde performs Life On Mars? in fitting tribute to David Bowie at the BRIT Awards after he called her the "future of music".Was it better than Lady Gaga's Bowie tribute at The GRAMMYs? Tell us what you think below:Posted by ITV News on Wednesday, 24 February 2016
The performance was in stark contrast to Gaga's only two weeks ago at The Grammy's. Lorde preferred a a stripped-back approach of a live band and simple red lights while Gaga's went for a wildly OTT spectacular involving animatronic keyboards and cataclysmic visual elements.
Bowie's son, film director Duncan Jones, criticised Gaga's performance, tweeting, "Overexcited or irrational, typically as a result of infatuation or excessive enthusiasm; mentally confused." Damn it! What IS that word!?" The word is, of course, 'Gaga'.
He had kinder words for Lorde's performance. "Finally found the links to tonight's Brits. Just... beautiful. Thank you."

To be fair to Gaga, she was already tied into a performance at The Grammy's with Intel before Bowie's death, meaning she had to use their technology to make a big show and dance during her performance. Perhaps if she had full creative control, she would have gone for something more reserved. However, you could hardly say it was a bad performance! It was very entertaining to say the least.
