Happy International Women's Day! Or, as I like to call it 'don't-you-know-you're-a-mom?-where-is-your-self-respect' Day. Don't know if that will catch on, to be honest. But, another day, another Twitter storm involving the Kardashian-Wests. As generally entertaining as that particular family unit has always proved to be, their golden twitter nuggets are always worth discussing as they frame public debate.
Yesterday, Kim Kardashian tweeted this picture of her post-baby body with the caption "When you're like I have nothing to wear LOL".

Kim, clearly proud of her body three months after giving birth to our future overlord, Saint West, decided to give her 41 million followers a glimpse of what she's working with these days. Unsurprisingly, people had a lot to say.

"Kim Kardashian tweets shocking nude selfie."— Pherocious (@RomarioKeen) March 7, 2016
If she really wanted to shock me, she'd tweet a picture of herself reading a book.
Then the celebrity condemnation started pouring in.
Kim Kardashian tweeted a nude selfie today. If Kim wants us to see a part of her we've never seen,— Bette Midler (@BetteMidler) March 7, 2016
she's gonna have to swallow the camera.
@KimKardashian I truly hope you realize how important setting goals are for young women, teaching them we have so much more to offer than-— Chloë Grace Moretz (@ChloeGMoretz) March 7, 2016
@KimKardashian - just our bodies.— Chloë Grace Moretz (@ChloeGMoretz) March 7, 2016
I know the old man's $50 million in debt, Kim - but this is absurd.— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) March 7, 2016
Want me to buy you some clothes? https://t.co/hEA9osB2QF
No one expected a fruitful conversation with Piers Morgan on gender and sex politics, but Bette Midler and Chloe Grace Moretz should know better. As women who have undoubtedly faced the double standards that plague the entertainment industry, the pair of them ganging up on Kim to "teach her a lesson about propriety" is so counterproductive to The Sisterhood.
Luckily, Kim's Twitter fingers were out in full force.
let's all welcome @ChloeGMoretz to twitter, since no one knows who she is. your nylon cover is cute boo— Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) March 8, 2016
So here is the problem with dissing Kim's nudes
Women are encouraged to feel good about themselves. If endless viral Dove beauty campaigns have taught us anything, it's that "every body is beautiful". And also to buy Dove soap.
But women aren't just encouraged to feel beautiful, we have to be beautiful as well. We can't have body hair, acknowledge the fact that we've ever had sex, or post pictures of our bodies for fear of being viewed as unchaste.
We've seen female celebrities have their nude photos hacked and leaked for the world to see, but when a woman (whose actual job it is to be beautiful and occasionally nude) takes agency of her body and posts her own nudes, then she is deserving of our judgement? I really hate to break it to ya'll but women have breasts, vaginas, legs, and stomachs. Kim's nude picture isn't a lesson in anatomy. It's just, like, a cute selfie.
You don't have to agree with Kim's nudes (isn't free will fun?!) but joining the very toxic discourse on how she should present her body and public image is so anti-feminist it's laughable. Especially when Chloe Grace Moretz has publicly claimed to have been a feminist "from birth".
I think feminism is about strong women being who they want to be and fighting for equality on all accounts.Chloe Grace Moretz
You hear that, Chloe? Feminism is about strong women being who they want to be and, right now, I think Kim Kardashian is happy being the strong, nude woman who made $80 million dollars in one year from a game.
I'd rather my gf post 1000 nudes than be a person who takes time to explain why Kim Kardashian isn't a good role model on the Internet— oh well (@prayF0Rme) March 8, 2016
@KimKardashian queen of confidence and queen of nudes— Anthony Quintal (@LOHANTHONY) March 8, 2016
