According to research, more than 80 scientists in 11 countries were funded thanks to the donations that were made alongside the viral video movement. As a result, that research has now led to a scientific breakthrough in the understanding of ALS / Motor Neurone Disease.
The challenge, which saw all your faves get drenched in ice cold water - including Pete Wentz with his glamorous Las Vegas backdrop - raised almost $200m worldwide! Yaaaas!
The discovery of a brand new gene associated with ALS means that scientists and doctors are now able to have a better understanding of the disease and will be able to trial various new treatments in order to eventually find a cure.
