Your skin may be the largest organ on your body but that doesn't stop it from being a major pain in the ass. Your skin responds to stress, bad diet, a wonky sleep schedule, and even its environment. If your skin is your problematic fave, don't you worry about a thing. We're coming through with the skin hacks.
Drink water like you're a woman with nothing to lose.
You've definitely received advice about how much water you should ideally drink a day (8 glasses) but, these days, people are majorly upping their water intake to see what it does for their skin. There is probably nothing better for your skin than pure water. It promotes skin circulation and will keep you feeling full (i.e. stop you from binging out on greasy, unhealthy food). If you want to try something radical and inexpensive to clear up your skin, starting with water is your best bet.
Time to break out those tumblr style buddha bowls. The verdict is in and avocados are legit when it comes to foods that do wonders for your skin. They're majorly filled with Omega-9 fatty acids and antioxidants that promote healthy skin and bright complexions. There's a reason those health bloggers always seem to have a certain glow. While they're watching the sun rise on their surf boards and eating their veggie bowls, they're also promoting their way to mega healthy skin.
Take. Off. Your. Makeup.
I literally cannot stress this enough. Do not sleep in your makeup. It's not cute and and it won't save you any time in the morning. It is a one way street to clogged pores and uncontrollable breakouts. The greatest thing a friend, a roommate, or a partner can do for you is to make sure that your skin is make up free before you go to sleep. There are tons of products you can use as a makeup remover. Regular wipes are an obvious one but micellar water is a busy girl's best friend. Please ladies (and gents), promise me that you will take off your makeup no matter how many Bacardi Breezers you have had tonight.
Know your oils.
Skincare doesn't have to be a mystical process (and you definitely don't have to spend tons of money on spot cremes). My favourite thing to put on my skin is a super cheap Argan oil based night serum (around £3.00) before bed--after I've washed my face. It's really great for any type of extreme weather (harsh winters, dry summers) and can easily be incorporated into your already existing skin care routine. Sometimes, when I don't feel like putting on makeup to leave the house, I just put on one thin layer of Argan oil for that Whitney Port glow. Honestly, guys, Argan oil is so lit.
Stay in your lane.
Studies have shown that staying in your lane can have all sorts of amazing health benefits. It can help you get a good night's sleep, avoid embarrassing social media clapbacks, and aggressive @mentions. Staying in your lane has the added benefit of ensuring that you're able to wake up healthy, refreshed, and ready to start another amazing day of staying in your lane. All joking aside, the more drama, stress, and crying you avoid the better your skin will look and feel.
Stop putting stuff on your face that isn't for your face.
So the cool thing about makeup is that you can experiment and craft your own unique look. The bad thing about makeup is that some people think that means they can draw on their eyebrows with Sharpies or use lipstick under their eyes to manage discoloration or even make mascara out of Oreos. Guys, I'm here to tell you that your eyes are the most sensitive part of your entire face. You should not be putting anything made of sugar on or around your eyes. And you should definitely not apply lipstick to your under eye area. Drink water, get some sleep, call your mom, and stay in your lane. Then you'll realize that you won't need to treat discoloration (because you'll be rested and healthy) and mascara is under £10 in most cases.
