There comes a time in every young person's life when they realize that knowing how to cook is kind of an essential life skill. You don't have to be a professional chef, but knowing how to use fire to make a meal for yourself is actually pretty useful. To start you off nice and easy, here are 5 stupidly easy recipes that everyone should know before they become an adult. 

1) We'll start off simple with the essential grilled cheese recipe

It's the perfect recipe for when you're out of food but you've at least got the basics of bread and cheese in your pantry. Total prep time is roughly 10 minutes and clean up is minimal. It's basically the perfect lunch/snack item.

2) It should be law that everyone be able to make a decent spaghetti bolognese.

Knowing how to make a Spagbol is pretty essential because it's cheap, easy to make, and great practice for skills like cooking meat and estimating wait times. It's the ultimate cooking experience minus the feeling that you're in way over your head.

3) Homemade french fries will come in handy for those "in between shopping day" moments. 

For this recipe you only need potatoes and oil and, depending on how you want to fry them, 15-20 minutes of prep time. Potatoes are so cheap and EVERYONE loves french fries, that it would be almost criminal not to have them in your cooking repertoire.

4) Super easy French toast for your lazy Sundays.

French toast is actually super easy to make. It only sounds fancy because it's got the word "french" in it. Aside from knowing the basics of a full english breakfast, you should definitely have a French toast recipe in your arsenal. It's a good way to mix things up and a great lesson in cooking with dairy and eggs. 

5) A chicken noodle soup recipe for sick days.

I'm a firm believer that you can't get on in life without a good chicken recipe and you can't possibly survive a bout of the flu without a good soup recipe. This chicken noodle soup recipe combines the best of both worlds. Kick your illness in the ass with a little protein and veggies.
