Let's get something straight. No one knows anything. Even your parents, who have presumably been around for ages, know very little. But, I'll say you probably know markedly more now than you did when you were 16 years old.
Here are the 10 things every 23 year old wants to say to say to their 16 year old self.
1) It gets ever so slightly better (but also slightly worse).
Get ready to stay out all night, go wherever you want, and make liberating life choices. Also get ready to have total responsibility over your life, have bad credit, and ask yourself where your life is going at least 10 times a day.
2) Enjoy being happy and excited about things while you still can.
When you get older, everything is a magnificent chore. At 16, laughter comes easier, fun is more abundant, and responsibilities are few and far between. If I had known this, I would have told my 16 year old self to--for the love of God--have more fun.
3) Don't believe the hype. Dating is not fun.
Interacting with a member of the opposite sex over a dinner with the expectation of intercourse at some point is truly a terrible experience. It's not going to be like an episode of the Hills where you stare longingly across the table at a fitness trainer. It is mediocre conversation and "you up" texts.
4) Do what you love, early and often.
The problem with "careers" is that you often have to have "experience" but you can't get "experience" while you're in still in "education". Just kidding. You totally can. Find what you love and start doing it as soon as possible. Don't let being "young and inexperienced" stop you from getting that paper. Money, I mean.
5) It's fine to be sad sometimes.
Sometimes you just need to put on Grey's Anatomy, order some greasy food, and feel bad about your life. Trust me, you're allowed. Sadness is just a part of life and one that you're allowed.
6) Become passionate about stuff.
Don't grow up to be one of the garbage humans I'm constantly talking at parties who have no opinions, no passions, and can never really contribute to any conversation. It's good to have thoughts and opinions. Don't be a garbage human.
7) Stay 16 forever.
One way to avoid becoming a regretful and jaded 22-year-old, is by staying 16 forever. Good luck with that :)
8) Be patient. Your GLO UP will come.
The more out of control your life becomes, the better you look. It's just a principal of life. Get lots of sleep, drink water, moisturise, and keep your eyes to the skies. Stay in doors when Mercury is in retrograde and avoid male Pisces. Your glo up will come.
