Strict parents asset

Living with your parents can be annoying, no matter what age you are.

For parents, the problem lies with letting their precious babies go (but not too far). While for most kids, you wanna run away as fast as possible, except maybe you're not ready emotionally or financially. It's a catch 22 that all of us face.

Parents are overbearing by nature. Most people will understand the logic behind the 'living under their rules' thing, even if they are inconsistently applied and barely logical in the first instance. It's when you get a little older and your parents start interrogating every little detail about your social life that the real fight begins. Who are you going out with? How do you know them? Have they ever smoked crack or been a member of the Church of Scientology? The list of questions is endless...

The thing I never understood with my own parents is how they could suddenly switch between 'caring family member' to enemy of the state within seconds. It was some serious Jekyll and Hyde shit. One moment we're enjoying a drive thru at McDonalds and the next we're having a screaming row about the difference between coming home at 10pm or 11pm. The different was VAST, apparently. Eventually I started drinking bottles of cider in the park with my friends and lost track of time altogether.

With this fractious relationship in mind, we've collected some of these parental woes into a list, mainly from the always amazing #growingupwithstrictparents. The struggle is very real.

1) Let's start with how pedantic they are.

2) Or how they LIE to you your entire life.

3) LIES!!! LIES!!! LIES!!!

4) They're always on that Sherlock Holmes hype.

5) And your friends think you're being paranoid.

6) They only believe you when tragedy strikes.

7) Having to hide love bites like your harbouring a violent criminal in your basement FFS.

8) Basically every parent ever.

9) Sometimes they set you up for failure.

10) This is also a useful skill to have when dodging train fares...

11) Occasionally they can be pretty cool.

12) But it's only a matter of time.

13) And the cycle begins again.
