There were a lot of opinions surrounding Jay-Z's motivation for that weird elite star-studded launch of TIDAL, but there was one prevailing theory that usually seems to come out on top - that of course, everyone high up in the music industry is part of a secret order that controls the entire world.

But rap genius, TIDAL advocate and probable Illuminati member Kanye West is having none of it.
"I’m tired of people pinpointing musicians as the Illuminati," he writes in an essay for PAPER magazine this week. "That’s ridiculous. We don’t run anything; we’re celebrities."
"If there was actually an Illuminati, it would be more like the energy companies. Not celebrities that gave their life to music and who are pinpointed as decoys for people who really run the world."
Fair point, but there isn't anything to say that members of the super-secret-underground-probably-fictional organisation couldn't be celebrities too. And TIDAL is giving a lot of people reason to suspect.
Madonna has also been quick to deny her involvement with the group, though she was less dismissive. In a rather cult-like Instagram post that was nothing but the TIDAL blue, Madonna called the conspiracy "the highest of compliments":
If you refer to Tidal as Illuminati, you are paying us the highest of compliments. As I've stated before it is another name for "The Enlightened Ones" a group of scientists, philosophers and artists that emerged after the dark ages. They changed and shaped the world for the better! Do the research and find out for yourself! #knowledge is power #rebelheart
The jury's out on whether or not this is all speculation (it is), but whether or not Kanye and Madonna are definitely involved in a secret organisation, it looks as though they're still recruiting.
