Loop Losing My Mind
candidates music taste

Last week, Republican candidate John Kasich revealed himself to be a fan of both FOB and TØP in a move that both surprised, delighted and horrified us in equal measure.

And now, merely days later, potential Trump beater Marco Rubio has been involved in his own piece of music-based controversy after bashing high-pitched disco legends the Bee Gees at a rally, to multiple boos from the crowd.

Rubio then added even more fuel to the fire with this bear-baiting tweet.

What a troll!

This got us thinking though - just what does the US presidential candidates' music tastes tell us about their political abilities? Time to speculate wildly and make crazy assumptions as we assess who you should be voting for based entirely on the contents of their Itunes account.

1) Donald Trump

Listens To: Whoever won't immediately order him to stop playing their music. That list grows shorter by the day.

What Does It Mean?: Trump waxed lyrical about his love for Michael Jackson at a recent debate but he seemed to focus more on him as a mega-rich person who attended his hotel openings than as a musical talent. So, in summary, Trump likes money. But you already knew that.

2) Hilary Clinton

Listens To: Hils wrote for Billboard about various women in music she loves including Lana Del Rey and Lady Gaga although it's more about them as people than their various bops and bangers.

What Does It Mean?: Her essay is actually very interesting, inspiring young women to have confidence in what they do and praising appropriate role models in the music industry. Basically, she's a proud feminist and, in an increasingly misogynistic election, not afraid to show it. Good for her.

3) Bernie Sanders

Listens To: Vampire Weekend turned up to his rally recently but, when quizzed by Rolling Stone, he went for some classics.

What Does It Mean?: He's pretty old and isn't going to patronise voters by trying to pretend otherwise. Good for him. Oh, and he once recorded a folk album. Bless him.

4) Ted Cruz

Listens To: Like some kind of pre-programmed Republican robot, Ted Cruz managed to link his taste in music to 9/11. Say what you will about him, the man knows how to pander.

What Does It Mean?: Ted Cruz will say anything to appeal to his base/may be a robot.

So what, if anything, have we learned?

Well, in summary, the only person who probably isn't lieing about their taste is Bernie Sanders.

Worth remembering.
