Heathens leak

Twenty One Pilots' contribution to the Suicide Squad soundtrack may have given them a tiny boost in name recognition (and bank balance totals) but not everyone is happy with how the release of "Heathens" went down.

As you may or may not know, "Heathens" was slated for an original release date of June 24. But, you know what they say about the best laid plans.

"Heathens" was leaked 9 days ahead of time and, now that all the dust has settled from the soundtrack release, Twenty One Pilots' label is taking the case all the way to the Supreme Court (of New York).

Here's the tea.

Atlantic is now openly feuding with Reddit because the site refuses to hand over the IP address of the person responsible for the leak. The leak originated from a user by the name of twentyoneheathens who posted a Dropfile.to link of the, then, unreleased single.

But here is where things get kind of hazy/intriguing.

The Suicide Squad sountrack was kind of a big deal. It was such a big deal that Atlantic only released "Heathens" to a very select group of people. Atlantic is alleging that there definitely should not have been a leak because virtually no one was meant to have heard it. A few people from Atlantic, a few people from Fueled By Ramen, and a few people from TOP's team were privy to the release ahead of time.

That means Atlantic likely suspects that the leak was an inside job.

Reddit counter claims that the leak has nothing to do with them. They're demanding that Atlantic point the finger at Dropfile because the person who shared the link to Reddit may not even be the same person who uploaded the link to Dropfile.

Basically, it's not in Reddit's best interest to snitch on their users if they don't ABSOLUTELY need to. Honestly, what would Reddit be without casual piracy?

You can read the full legal tea while you scrub your hard drives for any traces of you downloading the "Heathens" file.

Anyway, while we're on the subject, "Heathens" is still quite good. Isn't it?
