Meteorite by Years & Years

Years & Years Meteorite
Troye Sivan, Hayley Kiyoko, Olly Alexander

The summer might be over for us northern hemisphere dwellers but that doesn't mean the bangers stop. No, come rain or shine, there will always be a banger for you. You've just got to know where to find it.

Thankfully, you've come to the right place. Every month we do a round up of our favourite new tracks and we are going to spoil you rotten this time.

If you like this, why not then check out PopBuzz Radio where you can hear many of these and buckets more new music 24/7. All right, let's step to it...

1. Allie X - 'That's So Us'

We feel like it's taking a long time for people to catch up on Allie X. Too long. She's ready to be a mega-successful pop star, can someone just give her the crown already? The Australian pop starlet has writing credits all over the shop, including for Troye Sivan, but she's come thru with her biggest solo track yet on 'That's So Us', which features one of our favourite lyrics of recent weeks: 'You make me not want to die'. Tell it like it is, sister.

2. AlunaGeorge - 'Full Swing'

It's official: AlunaGeorge are our most featured artist on these monthly round ups (4 times this year already!) We're addicted and we're not giving up. Their excellent new album I Remember dropped last month and it's packed with sugary pop goodness but the opening track 'Full Swing' has one of the sweetest hooks we've heard all year.

3. Bloodboy - 'Keep Your Disease'

A newer obsession of ours is 25-year-old Lexie Papillion, who goes by the name Bloodboy. A former surfer from L.A., she's been impressing us all year with a series of singles of rough-and-ready pop tracks. Fans of Sky Ferreira will probably combust when they hear 'Keep Your Disease', which is every bit as striking as the title suggests.

4. Calvin Harris - 'My Way'

Remember when Calvin Harris used to sing on his tracks? No? Well, to be fair, it was a long time ago ('You Used To Hold Me' is still a jam fyi). Well, he's back on vocal duties on 'My Way' and it's refreshing change of pace for a man known for four-to-the-floor dance bangers. More of this please, Calvin.

5. The Chainsmokers feat. Phoebe Ryan - 'All We Know'

Are you sick of 'Closer' yet? Us too. Well move on to this new one from The Chainsmokers with PopBuzz fave Phoebe Ryan. Will this be as big as 'Closer'? Probably not. But maybe that's a good thing...

6. Francis and the Lights - 'See Her Out'

'See Her Out' will stop you in your tracks. It's thick, reverb-y synths immediately make you do a double take. It's the masterwork of Francis Farewell Starlite. It's been 9 years since starting the project and it's only now that he's finally releasing his debut album Farewell, Starlite! and judging by this track, it will be well worth the wait.

7. Hayley Kiyoko - 'Pretty Girl'

If you listened to the PopBuzz Podcast last week, you will have heard Hayley Kiyoko joining us for a chat about her new Citrine EP and we were basically gagging with excitement. Well, it dropped last Friday and it's banging. Our favourite track is 'Pretty Girl' and we've had it on repeat. If you want to listen to the podcast with Hayley, head over here.

8. Hey Violet - 'Guys My Age'

When we first saw that Hey Violet were signed to 5SOS's label, we assumed they were going to go down the pop-punk route. Judging by 'Guys My Age' we were completely wrong. This track wouldn't sound out of place on a Weeknd album - and that's a very good thing indeed! Also, would it be too much to call this a daddy banger? Just thinking out loud here folks.

9. Kevin Abstract - 'Empty'

If his name didn't already spark a little curiosity, then Kevin's music definitely will. There's nothing quite like it. So instead of just writing something really lame, we gonna tell you that The Neighbourhood and Troye Sivan are big fans, which is a good enough endorsement for us, tbh. One to watch, fo sho.

10. Lady Gaga - 'Perfect Illusion'

Look, if you don't like 'Perfect Illusion' then you can't sit with us, okay? Arise, Queen Gaga. We've missed you.

11. LOOP - 'Losing My Mind'

We've got a new crush and she goes by the name of LOOP. The Brixton-native is only a couple of singles into the LOOP project but she's already turning a few heads. 'Losing My Mind' is a shimmering pop number that leaves you wanting more - it's understated and catchy-as-hell. Get to know her NOW.

12. Lower Than Atlantis - 'Work For It'

Lower Than Atlantis are a band with commercial ambition but an uncompromising commitment to rock - and 'Work For It' is their statement of intent. Within the first few seconds, the song knocks seven shades of shit out of you with it's thrashing drums and heavy distortion, but then comes this undeniably catchy chorus... by the end you're not sure whether you've been kissed or slapped round the face. Maybe a bit of both?

13. PARTYBABY - 'California'

Whenever PARTYBABY get mentioned in the PopBuzz office, the conversation always goes something like this...
"PARTYBABY are great!"
"Yeah, man. They're gonna be huge!"
"They sound so much like Weezer!"
"Yeah, man. They're gonna be MASSIVE!"
And that's all you need to know about 'California' tbh.

14. Pillow Person - 'Go Ahead'

If you are a fan of early-noughties garage anthem 'Sweet Like Chocolate', then you'll probably love this bloopy pop banger from Pillow Person, who manages to sound like an android with complex emotional capabilities. Seriously, this is banging.

15. Sampha - 'Blood On Me'

The PopBuzz team were lucky enough to catch Alicia Keys at this month's Apple Music Festival in London. Half way through her (amazing) set, Queen Alicia brought out special guest Sampha for a duet on his own number 'Blood On Me'. It was easily the stand out moment for me - that voice! Sampha has a lot of soul and a lot to say. His debut album, Process, is due to drop any moment. Get ready.

16. Thomston - 'Rocketfuel'

Following in the footsteps of Lorde, Thomston is the next great hope for pop superstardom from New Zealand. There is something so effortless about 'Rocketfuel' - a propulsive, shiny pop number - that makes us think we haven't even scratched the surface yet with 20-year-old Thomas Stoneman. Check out his debut album, Topograph, out now.

17. Troye Sivan feat. Alessia Cara - 'Wild - Young Bombs Remix'

Think you're over 'Wild' yet? Well, you're not. This astral remix kinda took us by surprise - in fact, we think we prefer it to the original.

18. The Weeknd feat. Daft Punk - 'Starboy'

You've probably already heard this a million times already and, y'know what? That isn't enough. Press that repeat button, hunni.

19. Years & Years - 'Meteorite'

Olly Alexander joined us in the studio for the PopBuzz Podcast the other day. Do you know what he said? He said, "my bum is still doing great things". We completely agree. Years & Years are also still making great pop songs, as this Bridget Jones soundtrack number will atest. God bless Olly's bum.
