I hope I'm not alone when I say that one of the highlights of the Obama administration has definitely been its super fun and smart First Lady, Michelle Obama. She has gifted us with many a veggie based meme and now she's facilitating some fierce new tunes.
When you're the First Lady of The United States of America you can definitely call in favors. Like, if you wanted Zendaya, Missy Elliot, Janelle Monáe, Kelly Clarkson, Halle Bailey, Lea Michelle, Kelly Rowland, and Jadagrace on one track, that's definitely something you could ask for. And that's definitely something you could get.
These amazing ladies have teamed up with FLOTUS for a wicked tune called, "This Is For My Girls". The song wins in a way that can only be described as a mid-tempo diva bop with saucy Latin flavours. It's early solo Beyoncé with a sprinkling of mid-2000s J.Lo and, of course, a healthy dose of Missy. Suffice to say, it's a tune.
All the artists have waved their rights to royalties from the song and it will be going towards Let Girls Learn, a global education initiative for young women.
"This Is For My Girls" follows Michelle's 2015 commission, "Go to college" (Honestly, that's lit.) and was released ahead of The Obamas' SXSW excursion. "This Is For My Girls" is available on iTunes but you can hear a taste of it below. Get it, Missy!
