80's movie adaptations are weird. We gave the Transformers cooler trucks, we gave the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lips and noses, and don't even ask about the mess that is G.I Joe. But it looks as though the latest movie in this Hollywood-Hasbro trend might as well not even share the same name.
The first trailer for Jem And The Holograms promises us absolutely no super-computers, no 80's glam-rock hair, and no cool holographic suits. Instead, it looks as though the story of Jerrica "Jem" Benton has been reworked for the fame obsessed millennial bracket that confuses us all so, so much. Regardé!
When a secretly filmed video of her singing finds instant viral success, Jerrica and her sisters are transformed by music industry moguls into superstar glitter-tastic band Jem and the Holograms. It looks like it's going to be a rise-and-fall story, as Jem gets sucked into stardom and nearly leaves Jerrica behind. Or something.
We're on the fence, but to be honest; if Bumblebee can be a Camaro, Jem can have holographic earrings. Truly outrageous.
