MRI Scan - If I Only Had A Brian

There are probably a lot of sensible, boring ways you could test a new, super-fast MRI technique. Fortunately, researchers at the Beckman Institute aren't into sensible and boring.

To show how their MRI scanner could pick up 10 times as many frames per second as the average technique, assistant professor in Speech and Hearing Sciences Aaron Johnson demonstrates on the scanner how his jaw, neck, tongue and lip muscles work together to produce sound - by singing "If I Only Had A Brain" from The Wizard Of Oz. 3...2...1... NERDS.

The result is actually really fascinating to watch. You can see the inner workings of Johnson's head as he sings along to the track - not to mention he has a lovely voice. If you think your singing is bad, have a look at this and try and figure out which muscle you're not using.
